Markus spent his first few years in Toronto playing rhythm guitar and keyboard for Royal Wood (check out: www.royalwood.ca) across Canada. However, in 2003 he entered the studio to record his first solo album Room Enough For Two and emerged as a singer songwriter in his own right. For the album he enlisted Royal Wood as a producer and some of Toronto’s brightest musicians such as Sarah McElcheran ( Sarah Slean, Hawksley Workman), Adam Hay (Sarah Slean, Martina Sorbara), Maury Lafoy (Supers, Sarah Harmer) It was released in the summer of 2003. Two songs from that debut album have found their way into feature films and soundtracks. His song “Rome for a Day” was in the film Fever Pitch starring Drew Barrymore and directed by the Farrelly Brothers. As well, his song “Moonlight” was in the independent film The End of Silence starring Sarah Harmer and directed by Anita Doron. The film boasts an impressive soundtrack with acts like: The New Pornographers, Gentleman Reg, Howie Beck, Kate Fenner, Madrid, the Great Lake Swimmers…and more. He has shared the stage with acts like Serena Ryder, Jack Breakfast and Sarah Harmer and played in many festivals such as NXNE. 2006 saw the release of his new studio album My Kingdom Blue. Royal Wood came back to produce and Steve Pitkin (Elliott Brood) was the engineer. Other special guests include Michelle Rasky and Adam Hay. This should be an exciting new year!
